We’re always on the lookout for fun hikes in Hong Kong that are literally in your backyard. If your neighbourhood is Tseung Kwan O or Pik Uk, then the Razor Hill Hike is quite literally in your backyard.
Located in the Eastern New Territories of Hong Kong, Razor Hill is a relatively secluded hike. With scenic views of Sai Kung, HKUST, Clearwater Bay, Po Lam, and Tseung Kwan O, there is no reason for you to miss this hike.
Map and Elevation Profile
As you probably noticed, the hike is quite easy, except for the last 50 metres of the climb.

Starting point
We advise that you start this hike in Pik Uk, a small village in the Sai Kung district. The climb from here is shorter, and the descent more scenic. Although there are plenty of ways to get to the starting point, we’d recommend the following.
Suggested route to Pik Uk from Hong Kong Island
- Make your way to Hang Hau MTR station on the purple line.
- At the MTR station, take Exit B1 to the bus terminus.
- Find the stop for the Green Minibus number 11.
- You’ll notice two signs for the bus. Stand in the line for the bus to Choi Hung Station.
- Let your driver know to stop the bus as you approach the Pik Uk bus stop.
Suggested route to Pik Uk from Kowloon
- Make your way to Choi Hung MTR Station.
- At the MTR station, take Exit C2.
- Find the bus stop for either the Green Minibus 1A (to Sai Kung) or 11 (to Hang Hau).
- Let your driver know to stop the bus as you approach the Pik Uk bus stop.
Once you reach the Pik Uk bus stop, locate Razor Hill Road, which is easy to spot thanks to a Shell petrol pump and a Market Place by Jason’s supermarket located at beginning of the road.
Walk up Razor Hill Road
Once you pass the supermarket, continue walking till the end of the road and then look for a narrow path leading down a few steps on the left. The path leads you to a small park, and just behind the park is where the trail begins.
A challenging climb up to Razor Hill Peak
The climb to the top of Razor Hill can be slightly challenging. The trail isn’t clearly marked and gets slightly steep right towards the end.
The initial ascent cuts across a Chinese cemetery. Fortunately, there are steps here that act as your guide. Once you cross the cemetery, continue along the trail. If you notice a fork in the trail, it’s advisable to stick to the path on the left. Or better yet, follow the map.
As you get closer to the ridge, the trail gets steeper. Thankfully, locals have installed ropes along the last 50 metres, which are the steepest. Hold onto the ropes and slowly make your way to the top. This is the hardest part of the hike and fortunately ends quite soon.
Razor Hill Peak and Ridge
The steep climb ends and almost instantly gives way to beautiful views of Sai Kung. Walk along the ridge for another 30 metres and you’ll arrive at Razor Hill Peak. From here, you can admire the beautiful views of the east, from Sai Kung, Hebe Haven, Trio Beach, and beyond!
Take a moment to admire the views from here and catch your breath. Luckily from this point onward is a long but gradual downhill climb.
The Descent from Razor Hill
The hike does get more scenic as you begin your long descent. Just after the peak, there are a few steps that have amazing views of HKUST and Clearwater Bay. As you continue, the ridge changes directions slightly and the views soon are of the high rises in New Territories East – Po Lam, Tseung Kwan O and Hang Hau. You can also see Duckling Hill from up here.
And if you look straight ahead, you can see the sharpest peak in the region – High Junk Peak. And the small hill next to Hang Hau is Duckling Hill.
As you continue to descend, the views of the high rises get closer and closer, while the views of Sai Kung disappear.
The one strange thing we noticed on the Razor Hill hike were numerous forks in the trail. Every once in a while, two paths with no signs would appear in front of us, and we didn’t know which one to take. Fortunately, as we learned, all divergent paths eventually met up.
End at Po Lam MTR
The hike ends as the trail finishes at Po Lam Road North. Here, turn left and walk to the traffic signal. Turn right at the traffic signal and then simply follow the signs to the MTR.
Razor Hill Hike, Hong Kong
What we loved about this hike was how secluded it felt. For the most part, we had all these beautiful views to ourselves!
This hike is perfect if you’re looking for something short, easy and scenic, and not too remote. But of course, if you did this hike in reverse we can guarantee that it won’t be that easy.
If you ventured out on this hike, let us know how it went. Also, if you’re looking for an easy hike in the area, be sure to read our guide to the Duckling Hill Hike.

Hi, How crazy is the steepness of the section with the rope? From your altitude profile graph, it seems pretty crazy – nearly straight up? Thanks!
If I recall correctly, it wasn’t that crazy. But because it was on rocks, it was slippery and that’s what made it a bit dangerous.
