One of my favourite memories from my time in Stuttgart was the Hamburg Fish Market (Hamburger Fischmarkt, Stuttgart) that takes place every summer in Karlsplatz. In fact, Stuttgart reciprocates with Hamburg’s fishy generosity by taking their wine to Hamburg.
Not Enough Fish In Stuttgart
The Hamburg Fish Market lasts a good week-10 days during which time residents of Stuttgart can feast themselves on the freshest fish and beer flown in from Hamburg. Full disclosure, I hated the beer from Hamburg. Nothing like good old Swabian Wulle!ย But the fish is good. Residents of theย land-locked Stuttgart don’t get to enjoy such fresh fish asย often as they enjoy their maultaschen.
The city centre of Stuttgart is fairly small. So the Fish Market really livens up the whole city and it’s hard to ignore if you happen to be walking around the city centre. And of course, it’s not just about the fish. The Fish Market serves all types of delicacies and food. One can enjoyย delicious pickles, sausages, chocolates. There’s live music and live fruit auctions, a lot of dancing, and a whole lot of people getting drunk.

It’s A Hamburg Fish Market Party
Theย Hamburg Fish Market usually takes placeย sometime around June – July. It’s a delightful summer tradition and if you ever happen to be in Stuggart during this time, I honestly advise you to visit it. In fact, it’s really hard to ignore it.
